The Renmin University of China (RUC) Youth Study Camp is an innovative program designed specifically for young students nationwide. It helps them explore university disciplines and provides valuable guidance for choosing their future academic and professional paths. As the 4th session is about to launch, let’s take a moment to reflect on the success of the 3rd session.
On August 9, 2024, the 3rd RUC Youth Study Camp successfully concluded. More than 20 high schools across 18 provinces and cities sent students to the camp. Over five enriching days, participants formed new friendships, gained knowledge, and broadened their horizons on the vibrant campus of RUC.
The study camp encourages students to break free from conventional perceptions of foundational disciplines through the guidance of professors and senior peers. It inspires them to move beyond exam-oriented education and approach diverse fields with an open mind. From natural sciences to social sciences, engineering to humanities, each area offers endless possibilities for discovery and growth.
A feast of knowledge sharing
In this fast-changing era of technological advancement and evolving societal needs, every industry faces unprecedented challenges. The choice of academic background significantly impacts future career paths. For young people preparing for higher education, selecting a major that aligns with their interests and has growth potential is as important as choosing a reputable university with abundant educational resources.
The camp featured nine distinguished RUC professors from schools such as Journalism, Law, Information, Mathematics, Psychology, and Population and Health, alongside two external experts. Together, they delivered an exciting lineup of courses. Students actively engaged in discussions, asked insightful questions, and expanded their thinking through collaborative exchanges.
Course topics ranged from the art of public speaking and legal justice to AI innovation and the profound world of Chinese culture. These classes blended foundational knowledge with cutting-edge concepts, cultivating cross-disciplinary thinking and providing students with a glimpse of university-level education. The experience not only enhanced their current academic pursuits but also gave them clearer visions for the future.
The camp invited a senior student from the School of Journalism and a first-year graduate student from the School of Finance to have face-to-face exchanges with the participants. They shared personal experiences, providing tips on efficient high school preparation strategies and offering insights into vivid university life. Their stories inspired students to dream big, work hard, and believe that aspirations can turn into reality.
Diversified Experience, Ethnic Culture Exploration and University Walking
The participants of the camp embarked on an inspiring visit to the renowned “Palace of Ethnic Culture,” often referred to as China’s “First Palace.” As one of the nation’s foremost institutions dedicated to preserving ethnic minority heritage, it holds a vast collection of over 50,000 cultural relics, 24 categories of minority language literature, and more than 600,000 Chinese-language books and documents. Guided by expert curators, the students explored the halls, immersing themselves in the remarkable narrative of China’s unity, development, and prosperity. The visit offered a vivid glimpse into the richness of the country’s cultural legacy, leaving students in awe of the diverse and enduring heritage of the Chinese nation.
On campus, senior students led participants on a tour through iconic landmarks such as Mingde Building, the Library, and the Spoonful of Ponds. From sharing dormitory anecdotes to university history, the tour brought RUC’s deep traditions and youthful vibrancy to life.
Inspiring Success Stories
This summer, RUC received exciting news from participants of the first camp. Six students completed their college entrance exams, with four enrolling in prestigious universities of 985. One student excelled in the Strong Foundation Program in History at RUC, continuing their journey at this distinguished institution. Others achieved impressive results and are now pursuing studies at top universities in Beijing.
The camp is designed to be a unique and treasured memory for junior and senior high school students, inspiring them to dream big and pursue excellence. Like a lighthouse, this experience illuminates their academic journey and empowers them to move forward boldly. We look forward to welcoming more students to RUC, where they can write their own brilliant chapters.
