From September 18th to September 22nd, 2023, the Lien Ying Chow Legacy Scholarships Scholar Exchange Program was held at Renmin University of China. Seven scholars, officials, and experts from Singaporean government departments, selected through interviews and assessments by the Lien Ying Chow Legacy Scholarship Council, came to the university for study and exchange. The exchange program was organized by the International Exchange Office of the university and hosted by School of Continuing Education.
This edition of the exchange program lasted for five days. Singaporean scholars engaged in in-depth discussions with experts and scholars from Renmin University of China's schools, including the School of Public Administration, School of Economics, School of Journalism and Communication, School of Sociology and Population Studies, and the School of Applied Economics. The discussions covered various topics such as the development and challenges faced by China's social governance, China's economic development with a focus on economic openness and globalization, the intelligent transformation of China's content industry, the impact of China's population development on national progress, and topics related to carbon economy, including scientific principles, typical facts, and policies.
Additionally, the participants visited well-known enterprises, high-tech companies, and modern communities. Some scholars held a seminar with experts from the School of Applied Economics on Asia's clean technology policies, especially in industries facing challenges in emission reduction.
The establishment of the Lien Ying Chow Legacy Scholarship in Singapore is in commemoration of the distinguished business leader, banker, and hotel magnate, Dr. Lien Ying Chow. Dr. Lien was not only a seasoned diplomat but also a generous philanthropist. The scholarship serves as an advanced talent exchange program providing in-depth immersion and expanded perspectives for outstanding and promising individuals from both Singapore and China. It aims to facilitate career development, aligning with the needs of both countries in cultural, commercial, and social development. The ultimate goal is to empower the recipients to drive cooperation across various sectors, lead in the era of change, and promote mutual prosperity between the two nations. Nanyang Technological University is the hosting institution for the program in Singapore. The program has been in collaboration with Renmin University of China for over a decade, conducting a one-week study on the topic of “Chinese national conditions” each year.
At noon on September 22nd, Han Xiaoning, the dean of School of Continuing Education at Renmin University, and Li Zhenshi, the museum director, had a luncheon with the delegation of scholars from Singapore. During the meal, they engaged in lively discussions on common interests. After the successful conclusion of the exchange program, Dean Han Xiaoning presented the completion certificates to the scholars from Singapore.
